SECTOR: Resources听
REGION: Midwest region of WA
The Tenindewa Vanadium Processing facility will process vanadium concentrate into vanadium oxide products and iron ore co-product, with production capacity of up to 13,000 tonnes per annum of vanadium oxides. The project includes a processing plant, evaporation ponds, support facilities, and infrastructure. Expected to operate for at least 50 years, the facility aims to significantly contribute to the global supply of vanadium, essential in industrial applications like steel production and battery energy storage systems.听
OUR INVOLVEMENT: Preliminary Environmental Impact Assessment听
Umwelt was engaged to undertake a flora and vegetation survey, prepare a greenhouse gas emissions management plan, undertake a preliminary environmental impact assessment and prepare Referral for Assessment under Part IV of the Environmental Protection Act 1986.听
The Greenhouse Gas Emissions Management Plan Calculation included calculation of predicted greenhouse gas emissions, including mitigation strategy and consideration of the Taskforce on Climate Related Financial Disclosures.听听
Key environmental focus areas for the environmental impact assessment included:
- Greenhouse gas emissions
- Air emissions during construction and operations
- Water use and sources
- Terrestrial flora and vegetation
- Protection of environmental quality (soil, surface water and groundwater)
- Protection of social surroundings from noise, dust, and visual amenity impacts.
OUTCOME: 听
The Environmental Protection Authority decided that assessment was not required, as the potential impacts were not so significant as to warrant formal assessment and could be adequately assessed under other environmental approval mechanisms under Part V of the Environmental Protection Act 1986 (works approval and clearing permit).听
